Preggo Week 10 Recap

Preggo Week 10 Recap

This was a hard week.  It's been really hot and that's really hard on me.  I feel light headed and just have no energy.

Work has also been extra stressful lately.  Basically, I'll be losing my job at the end of the year (or early next year) so I'll have to apply for a new job.   And, I've got some stressful cases to deal with.

With all of that, I have not been able to run.  Just so worn out.  All I want to do is nap and sleep.

Preggo Week 9 Recap

Preggo Week 9 Recap

Didn't really get any running in this past week since I had my mom and sister visiting.  We also took a day trip to go see my grandmother.  A busy week of family visiting.  It was nice spending time with the family.

I did take my mom, sister, and daughter out on some trails by the Auburn Confluence for a small hike.  It was nice to get to share with them a little bit of where I like to run.

Preggo Week 8 recap

Preggo Week 8 Recap

Last Saturday, I made it out to a Java Joggers run.  While pushing Ellie in the stroller, I ran the Lake Natoma Loop (11.62 miles) with my friends Cathy and Cindy.  I wasn't so sure if I'd make it all the way around as I hadn't run that many miles the past few weeks but I felt mostly good during the run. Ellie has been great riding in the stroller these days.  I think she likes being on the bike trail as she gets to see lots of things like other runners, dogs, bikes, etc.  It felt great being able to get a nice run in and being out with my running friends.

And, on Tuesday, I played hooky from work and went on a trail run with some MRTT.   Hubby has been sick, which is tough as it's mostly me taking care of Ellie.  It was nice to get some girl time with my fellow running mamas.  We ran on some trails around the Olmstead Loop in Cool.  I had great fun and it reminded me I need to make more time with my fellow mom friends.

So, this was a pretty good week of running.

I also had my first appointment and got to see the baby (on the ultrasound).  So that was exciting.  I've been nervous that something will happen with this pregnancy so it's nice to have a check up to see things are okay.  I'm also really glad that I don't bad morning sickness with this pregnancy as I did last time.

Preggo Week 7 Recap

Preggo Week 7 Recap

For the past 5 weeks, I've been doing a Couch to 5k (C25k) program with some newbie-ish ladies in the Auburn MRTT group.  Thought it'd be fun to do to get some newer runners out.  It's also doesn't require too much of a time commitment to do as the runs are usually about 30 minutes long.  And, I just love helping new people get into running.

For the first week, we did 30 seconds of running and two minutes of walking for 8 sets.  And, we've been slowing building up to more running, less walking.  For this week, we did 2 minutes of running, 30 seconds of walking for 10 sets.  The gals have been doing great.

Also this week, I was running with one of the C25k gals, Yvette.  During the first couple weeks, she would frequently say "I am by no means a runner.  I am a walker but I want to do a 5k."  During a run we had together this week, she said "I want to do a 5k this summer, a 10k in the winter, and hopefully a half marathon next year."  I loved hearing this as she most definitely sounds like a runner now!

Other than that, I think I've recovered from Western States.  I didn't even run the race but that weekend really did a number on me.  I've also been feeling tired with the pregnancy but getting out helps give me energy.  So, I hope to be getting back into my running groove again.

Preggo Week 6 Recap: Western States

Preggo Week 6 Recap

Western States

Last weekend was the Western States 100.  I helped crew Gunhild Swanson.  If you hadn't heard of Gunhild by now, she was the last finisher at Western States last year and was the first 70 year old female to finish that race.  She also finished in seconds before cutoff and definitely one of the most exciting race finishes I have ever witnessed.

My coach Ann Trason was going to crew her so I offered to help crew too.  Crewing is exhausting (extra exhausting for the preggo gal).  I was up all day with the kid and going to a birthday party and tracking runners online.  In the evening, I started crewing Gunhild.  Crewing involves a lot of waiting around, rushing around, then waiting around.

We got Gunhild through Michigan Bluff and Foresthill.  I hit a drive thru for some food (as I was starving! Must remember to have food for oneself).  Then, I napped on my couch for about an hour before heading to Rucky Chucky (at the river crossing) in the wee hours of the morning.

Gunhild arrived about 10 minutes before the cutoff.  She refused to go any further.  We got her down to the river and just urged her to go to Green Gate, just a couple miles away.  She did not want to go anymore.  I stood back as many folks, including Gordy Ansleigh, Ann Trason, and others tried to urge her to at least cross the river and see how things go.  But, she would not go any further.

Gordy, Gunhild, and Ann sitting at the River of Western States.
I was amazed to be in the presence of such greatness!

After we all accepted that Gunhild was going to be dropped, I tried to help console Ann, who was very upset (she really cares so much for people).  We all then found out that at 5am, the cutoff for Rucky Chucky, is when the shuttles to take people out of Rucky Chucky stopped running.  This makes no freakin' sense as there are volunteers, crew, and runners who don't make the cutoff that need to be able to get out.  Instead, we are told we need to hike the 2 miles back up to Driver's Flat!  How does that make any sense?!

My friend Scott and hiked our way up the climb and luckily a super kind stranger driving a pickup truck drove by and let us hop in the back with some others.  There was two volunteers who had spent all night working in the river and were told they had to hike back out.

After that, I went back home to see my baby.  I took her with me to Placer High School to watch people finish.  It was a fun morning seeing many friends finish.  Ah, just being at the race finish always makes me wish for my day to run the race!   Seeing some finishers finish with their kids made me extra emotional.  I can't wait to hold the hands of my kids when I cross that finish line.

Post-Western States

After States, being up all weekend with little sleep all caught up to me and I felt completely worn out for days.  Post-States hangover was rough.  And add the exhaustion of first trimester pregnancy, I didn't have any energy for anything, especially running.

I did get out for a fun birthday run with some of my MRTT friends.  I'm grateful to have this running group of fellow moms.

Birthday Run with friends

For week 6 of pregnancy, I got in a total of 5.15 miles.
Total miles for this pregnancy (not counting first 2 weeks) = 127.45 miles
(At this time last pregnancy, had only 18.15 miles so doing pretty good compared to last time)
